A major industrial investment project is underway in Kokkola, as the Sibanye-Stillwater’s Keliber lithium refinery is being built in the Kokkola Industrial Park. ASES will carry out the process electrification installations for the new refinery. This is a major contract for ASES.
In the Deep Mine project of the Outokumpu Kemi mine, the mine will be deepened between 500 and 1000 levels as an underground mine. A lot of infrastructure required by the mining process has been built underground, and ASES has played a significant role in electrifying it in this project.
ASES and Siemens Energy Oy have jointly implemented two extensive 110 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) modernization projects. Siemens Energy Oy has been the main contractor and ASES has done high-quality installation work in the role of subcontractor.
ASES and South-West Supply Oy have implemented new heat recovery solutions for Terrafame's hydrogen plants, achieving significant savings in energy use and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Two sites were identified in the project, where it was possible to utilize heat recovery technology by post-treatment of flue gases and steam, which is completely new in the hydrogen plant environment.
In 2016, ASES began cooperation with Savaterra Oy, which built a contaminated soil treatment plant in Guangzhou, China. ASES acted as a wide-ranging electrical automation partner in the project. Later, Reccon Oy bought Savaterra's Asian operations with equipment and patents, but the close cooperation between these Lapland-based companies continues.
We started an expansion work of a 110 kV switchyard for ABB at Outokumpu Chrome Oy Kemi Mine this May. The objective is to improve service reliability and enable alternation during e.g. switchyard maintenance.
ASES has carried out several assignments at Outokumpu’s cold rolling mills as they shift to using liquefied natural gas (LNG), over the last couple of years. The shift to using LNG decreases carbon dioxide emissions, thus helping Outokumpu forward with their climate objectives.
